IQOO 5 series launched in India

After weeks of leaks and teasers, Chinese based company, Vivo has moved to unveil the iQOO 5 series of flagship phones in China. The new iQOO series comprises two new phones — iQOO 5 and iQOO 5 Pro, which brings with its offer of flagship-grade specs and promise support for a high refresh rate among other features.

Vivo as a smartphone brand has grown incredibly well and known in this part of the world especially during the Covid-19-ridden first and second quarter of the year with individuals opting for their more mid-range and entry-level price-friendly smartphones over their Transsion counterparts.

The iQOO devices are more or the same an established mid-range con flagship offering of the company and before we get ahead of ourselves, here’s a full lay down on everything new with the IQOO 5 and iQOO 5 Pro.

One of the many highlights which the iQOO 5 series brings is its 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display that’s 6.56-inches in size. Though this is a feature present in both devices, it doesn’t go to note that the two displays differ from each other slightly. While the display of the iQOO 5 is flat the iQOO 5 Pro on the other hand features a screen with curved edges.

Both smartphones panels flaunt a 20:9 aspect ratio panel and can get extremely bring at 1,300 nits brightness. There is also an in-display fingerprint reader hidden underneath the display.

Under the hood, the IQOO 5 series has a Snapdragon 865 processor running the show and is paired with 8/12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256GB UFS 3.1 storage. There’s also a VC heat sink for bringing the temperature down by 12 degrees.

While the camera department is where these lesser-known brands get the stick, the IQOO 5 series doesn’t entirely disappoint at all.

On the back, the iQOO 5 features a triple camera enclosed in a rectangular module, a Samsung GN1 50-megapixel sits as the primary lens with a 13-megapixel ultrawide and a 13-megapixel portrait lens making up the triumvirate. The iQOO 5 Pro on the other hand features the same primary lens, it pairs with a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens with 120-degree field-of-view, and a 13-megapixel periscope telephoto lens.

The two devices have a punch-hole on the display which hides a 16-megapixel selfie camera.

Moving on, the IQOO 5 series does a jinx with its battery choice for the two devices. The iQOO 5 Pro comes with a 4,000 mAh battery and supports 120W Flash Charge. The iQOO 5 on the other hand carries a larger 4,500 mAh battery but gets only a 55W Flash Charge solution.

The company has announced that the iQOO 5 will be available in blue and gray options starting a CNY 3,998 for the 8/128GB version. There’s also a 12/128GB variant available for CNY 4,298 ($620) and a 12/256GB one for CNY 4,598.

The iQOO 5 Pro smartphone on the other hand comes in Track Version and Legendary Edition color schemes. It starts at CNY 4,998 for the 8/256GB variant while the 12/256GB version retails for CNY 5,498. Sales are scheduled to begin on August 24, in China.
