Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console has been officially unveiled on early Friday with the next-generation gaming console a big departure from the immensely-popular PlayStation 4 and its different variants.
At its reveal event, Sony showcased the PlayStation 5 in two variants – the one with a Blu-ray disc player otherwise called the STANDARD variant and the one without it which is themed the DIGITAL ONLY variant.
The major talking points from the reveal being the outlandish design which features white flaps covering it from two sides, which also help in heat dissipation on the console.
The new gaming console stands vertically, much like the Xbox Series X but has a more enhanced design to the refrigerator-like standing for the Xbox.
Though Sony said the reveal was practically for its new and exclusive game titles, it went ahead to reveal some mind-blowing specs for a device available for worldwide launch later in the year.
The PlayStation has a USB-A and a USB-C port at the front, along with other ports that will facilitate the attachment of accessories that Sony has launched.
Sony also revealed it is introducing an HD Camera, a DualSense charging station, a Plus 3D wireless headset, and a media remote for the gaming console.
For smooth gaming experience, the Sony PlayStation has an octa-core AMD Zen 2 CPU and a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU. Sony has claimed the chipset on the PlayStation 5 will deliver 10.28 teraflops of power using both CPU and GPU.
Sony is also using an SSD as anticipated on the console with an 852GB capacity and a read/write speed of 5.5GBps. It supports 8K graphics, in addition to offering 4K quality at 120Hz refresh rate, and 3D Audio.
However, the major headache gamers all over the globe would be having is coming to a compromise on whether to buy the PlayStation 5 considering the PlayStation 4 is still going strong.
Here’s three reasons why you might consider buying the PlayStation 5 once it’s available.
1. Next-Gen Powerful Tech
Who doesn’t like getting a taste of new tech and the enthusiasm it brings?
The PlayStation 5 specs are ridiculously unexpected that it pretty much makes its Xbox Series X counterpart feel inferior.
A combination of an AMD Zen 2 CPU and a custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU which promises to deliver 10.28 teraflops of power just leaves us all in awe, no doubting that feeling when you can feel the monster in your hands
They took a few pointers from the Xbox 360 while making it slimmer, just leaves much though on how they plan to handle cooling with all that power in such a small package.
I’m pretty sure they get it all figured out before public launch so as to avoid a ‘Samsung Galaxy Fold’ kind of blunder.
Also, a 4K quality offering at 120Hz refresh rate, and 3D Audio with that Plus 3D wireless Headset sitting right on my earlobes…

2. Real-time 5G experience then?
As we mentioned, the PlayStation 5 comes in two variants – the standard and Digital ONLY option, but then much focus since early reveal has been on the later.
There is a similar design to both the models, except for the thickness the former has.
But, that doesn’t tell the full story
A lot of confusion revolves around this ‘special’ option since it’s the first of its kind exclusively from Sony.
Is it a clever strategy from Sony to manage different price points for its new tech? Are we finally going to get a real-time integration for 5G?
They questions are endless for now but one clear understanding here is, the PlayStation 5 Digital variant will not support use of Blu-ray disc player.
3. Budget-friendly Pricing
Now this is an intended pun but the features on show during the PlayStation 5 reveal makes every penny to be spent worth it.
There are rumours their could be a variation in price for the PlayStation 5 Digital and Standard Edition but all these speculations are in it’s infancy currently.
The pricing and availability of the PlayStation 5 have not been announced yet but a Worldwide launch is expected late in 2020.
Sony also announced a slew of gaming titles at its packed event, many of which will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The Spider-Man: Miles Morales trailer was launched while Sony also announced the Grand Theft Auto V will arrive on the platform in 2021.
Final Thoughts
The PlayStation 5 really be a deal breaker if everything pans out as expected but then you never know for the starting price point.
