Problems ranging from a slow computer system, slow internet speed and a restarting computer system; these all help make our computer life a bit hectic any day. These issues may arise due to certain hardware clogging together or absence of a particular driver altogether.

The ultimate first aid you need to carry out when determining the problem facing your computer system is to run a troubleshoot of the computer. Before you troubleshoot your computer, endeavour to first reboot/restart it – you will be surprised at how much problems rebooting a computer system solves.

Some of the other features we should look out for in our computer system after reboot include: –

  • Make sure that the Operating system is up to date as sometimes, problems may arise due to the use of an old version of the OS. You can carry out the update in a matter of minutes.
  • Make sure that the WindowsSystem Update feature is updated too and active as it helps to remove bugs thereby improving the computer performance.
  • Try turning off and on again any peripheral device (eg USB sticks, thumb that’ss) that’s misbehaving or switching it to a new USB port altogether.
Now having done the above, let’s now delve in into the troubleshooting proper and in the process correct most of our computer system sickness.

A Slow Computer

If your computer is slow or proving to be slow when opening/ installing g programs, hangs while in use of the internet or takes lots of time to load the entire computer system whenever you turn it on, then you’re having a really slow computer problem in your hands.

Firstly, you need to understand that – your videos or websites taking much h time to load does not have anything to do with you having a slow computer system.

Sometimes you may also experience an unresponsive tab in your Chrome or Mozilla browser like mine, all these does not necessarily mean a slow computer.

Hard drive interface
Once you have come to terms that your computer system is the one slow, you then have to check the resultant causes – Usually an almost filled up Hard Drive (HDD) like the one above or too many processes being executed in the computer background.

In a situation where the Hard Drive that holds all your Operating System usually (C:) is full or showing the RED COLOR, the computer OS ultimately slows down and cannot write and read programs as quickly as before as it goes on a long journey of searching for space to allocate to that particulars process.

This search-and-allocate-space process takes very long time leading to the slowness of your computer system and its entire performance.

Steps to take:-
  • Delete unneeded files such as movies, photos and videos or perhaps move them to another folder altogether, you are not going to miss them at all compared to when your entire computer system crashes.
  • Use a program like Visipics to remove duplicated images or files which are occupying large spaces in the computer.
  • Uninstall entirely programs you are not using anymore or perhaps some big files like games et al.

Startup Menu

Having many processes running in the background may prove to be the ultimate cause of having a slow computer – because of the computing power they require and the RAM.

Try eliminating some of the processes by going to the “Startup tab” like in the image above. Now, you don’t want to uncheck any process that is not a Microsoft process. Look out for names like – Google update, AdobeAAMUpdater, Spotify etc. Uncheck these ones and check the next result after rebooting.

Having a Slow Internet

This is another computer problem altogether. When you feel like downloading, browsing, streaming a giving program or event and its taking long time to load. All you have to do is to check if the slowness is network-related or not before you proceed further.

You can check your network speed by visiting Speedtest.net and running a speed test to check if you are getting the required internet speed possible.

Speedtest Check

Minimum internet speeds are usually 50% of the required internet speed but if yours do not correspond to that figure then something is hogging your bandwidth, try doing the following:-

  • Check to see that there are no torrent clients running in the background. Most of them minimise to the tray or task bar and continue downloading and uploading files leading to a reduction in bandwidth.
  • Another resultant cause might be your network card drivers being out of date. It’s very much appropriate to update your Operating System now.
  • Next now is to try turning your modem Off/On or unplugging it entirely and then plugging it back.

Computer System Keeps Restarting

There are several causes or situations  that may lead to a constant rebooting computer system, which may include: –

  • Series of some Windows updates which most times requires rebooting of the system.
  • Is your computer system usually hot? Most times when the system fan stops working, this might lead to overheating of the computer system thereby rebooting the system entirely.

Continous Disconnection from a Wifi

It is worthy to take note that, Wireless problems can occur due to many reasons – the router in use, your ISP and sometimes your computer system.

Also, weak wifi signals can get disconnected often from the connected device, so make sure to have or make use of a wifi signal with strong strength and reception.

You computers wireless adapter card might also be a cause if it is expired. Try checking if it is up to date or call your ISP for help.
